The Parallel Forest at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is probably my favorite place to shoot at in Oklahoma. Coming from near Jackson, Mississippi, trees will always remind me of home. Especially pine trees like these!

Because of this, I could not have been happier when Jerica said she wanted to do her family session in one of Oklahoma’s staple locations. I always do a bit of a happy dance when someone chooses to shoot here!

Needless to say, I was definitely not alone in my excitement. Sweet Jazzy was having the time of her life in these trees! An outdoor girl by heart, the Parallel Forest was definitely the right choice for this soon-to-be big sister.

Walking through the trees, playing with sticks, and having mom and dad play with her made those smiles come so easy. (AKA, my favorite way for sessions to go!)

Whenever parents get frustrated that their child isn’t looking at the camera consistently, I like to gently remind that this is such a short time in everyone’s lives. One day, it will be the last day you get to pick them up.

Or twirl them around..

Or play “which is the coolest stick?”

These moments are so precious.

When I do family sessions, I do not take that responsibility lightly. I am not here to force you or your children to be any one other than who you are naturally. I will guide you into some prompts and add some ways to get everyone comfortable, but other than that it’s all you!

In this day and age, it’s so easy to get distracted by what everyone else is doing and forget who you are. I encourage everyone to come as they are and I’ll do the rest.

So bring on all of the giggles and cool sticks! I might just have to bring my old rock collection from back home. 😉
